Rakalj is the birthplace of the famous Istrian writer and economist Mijo Mirković. The house in which he was born now hosts an etnographic collection. In the past, Rakalj was famous for the production of traditional Istrian pottery.
Stari Raklaj is located on a hill above the promontory of St. Nicholas in the Bay of Raša. This was a prehistoric fort, ancient fortification and medieval castle; today we can see the well-preserved church of St. Agnes.
Local legends tell of the connection between this saint, pirate ships, storms at the sea and sunken treasure.
Whether there is some truth in them, we cannot tell, but one thing is certian: here you will be welcomed by beautiful nature and magnificent views of the surrounding areas.
